The challenge

Our society is certainly changing day by day, sometimes in faster pace, but sometimes slower. We also know that our society is a complex matter which often faces problems that need to be solved. Arguably, one of the biggest challenges we can encounter is inequality, which significantly influences the opportunities and possibilities of the people who are involved and leaves them in a disadvantaged position. Tourism is one of field, where inequality has a remarkable role that needs to be changed from the perspective of visually impaired people. Visiting new places in the world offers a number of enriching positive outcomes, such as broadening our horizons, fostering personal growth and cultivating deep appreciation for diversity and culture. However, the problem is that this opportunity seems to be quite exclusive when it comes to people living with visual impairment as these people require a way more complex and well-rounded solutions. Since I was 10 years old, I grew up with interaction with visually impaired people, as my parents used to have a company that was focusing on making theatre performances accessible for people living with visual and hearing impairment. Throughout these valuable years, I had the opportunity to personally look into their every day lives, dive myself into understanding and analysing the needs they require in every aspect of their lives. Based on the 10+ years of interaction, I came to the conclusion that they have an enormous desire to travel and discover new cultures similarly as we all do. However, organising such trips are not as easy for visually impaired people as for people who have visual perception. A trip requires way more planning, execution and organization and often times the yet unsolved problems they have to encounter immediately turns them off. Based on the personal experience, safe mobility is the biggest challenge they have to face, and with BakBraille we have to solution for that.

The solution

BakBraille offers a solution to connect visually impaired people with the ultimate Dutch experience and culture, while completely bridging over their main physical and mental boundaries which have been holding them back. Therefore, BakBraille would like to offer the most authentic, effective and ‘gezellig’ way of city tours on cargo bikes, that would immediately invite every visually impaired people to equally experience one of the main reasons why people travel to the Netherlands.
